Story

There are a few things I remember from childhood, I loved to cook and I had really sensitive skin. You might wonder what these two things have in common, well, they are what brought me to where I am today, running an organic farm in Northern California.

My love for food and cooking spurred me to take a part-time job working in a health food store. I was a young mom, and it was some adult time out of the house, which had the bonus of exposing me to a lot new and unfamiliar products. It fostered an interest in organics and all things natural, including skin care. Having dealt with sensitive skin for so long, the idea of natural skin care was appealing, but the truth is most of it isn’t actually that natural.

  • Over the years I learned a great deal, and while working in natural botanics I met Nigel, my late husband, an organic farmer in Northern California. Although Nigel started Eatwell Farm as a CSA farm, growing lots of yummy organic fruits and vegetables, he eventually found he had a great love for aromatic botanicals, and that is where our worlds collided. It was a natural pairing, both of us love to provide fresh food for our community, and also loved making simple and natural products out of the aromatics we grow.

  • In the summer, we take our freshly harvested lavender, rose geranium, rosemary and lemon verbena down the highway to our friend Wally, our distiller. Distillation days are always so exciting, seeing how these beautiful plants, with the aid of steam, turn into deliciously scented hdyrosols* and essential oils. We grow calendula, and macerate it in either olive oil or apricot oil to use as a base in many of our facial products.

  • Now that I run the farm on my own, I don’t have the time to fuss with a multi-step daily skin care regimen. With all these amazing ingredients at my fingertips, literally growing on my farm, I realized I should make products to nourish my skin. With the concept of simplicity and purity in mind. I started working on a few facial products, cleanser, hydrating mist and nourishing oil.

  • I wanted products that were Eatwell Farm ingredient based, and I wanted the process to be straightforward, quick and multi-functional. I use the hydrating mist and nourishing oil in my hair too! Playing with our farm grown ingredients, I also developed a natural Deodorant and foaming Hand Wash. And because so many people asked me for one, Pillow Spray was added to the lineup too.

Eatwell Botanics is a line of skin and body care that highlights some of the loveliest plants nature gives us, keeping it simple and pure.
